Wedding Tasks Turned Date Night!
“It's essential to ensure that your wedding day is about you and your partner and celebrating your love.”
At CJW, we understand the importance of spending intentional time with our partners. As busy women juggling responsibilities such as raising kids, keeping up with family and friends, and work, it can be challenging to make time for one another. We have been in the wedding industry for a long time and have observed how easy it is to get distracted during the engagement season. There are countless details to focus on, making it easy to lose sight of why you're getting married and to neglect investing in each other.
Wedding planning can take a considerable amount of time. We encourage couples to turn daunting tasks into fun date nights whenever possible. During this time, people may also try to save money for the wedding and their future. Therefore, combining wedding planning with date night activities is an excellent way to save money, accomplish wedding tasks, and connect with your partner. Here are three of our favorite date night options:
Registry over Cocktails
One of our favorite ways to make tedious tasks more enjoyable is by pairing them with something fun. This "stay-at-home" date night is perfect for some tipsy online shopping. We recommend having at least one signature cocktail or a "his and hers" cocktail at your wedding. However, how do you know which one to pick? You have to taste test them! Chanel your inner barista, get creative, and mix some cocktails together. It's a fun way to learn a new skill and finalize your bar menu.
If cocktails aren't your thing or your venue only allows beer and wine, have a wine and beer tasting at home. It's just as fun, and you may try something new. Take notes on what you are tasting!
Once you've had some fun with cocktails, you can work on your registry. Making 2-3 registries is always a great idea, but they can feel monotonous. You can turn this into a drinking game! Every time you add an item, take a sip of your drink, or take a sip whenever you add an item over $30. It's up to you. But have fun and enjoy the process!
Cozy Cuddles
Sometimes, couples can become disconnected during the planning process. They might have different priorities for the wedding day, and it's hard to keep that in mind when dealing with the nitty-gritty details. Marriage can bring in a brand new season of life for some people, such as getting your first home, moving, getting new jobs, finishing school, getting your first roommate, etc.
It's essential to ensure that your wedding day is about you and your partner and celebrating your love. Staying connected and communicating during the planning process is key. We recommend couples take a night to stay home and reconnect about the big day outside of the details. Cozy up on the couch, and each of you writes out the top three things you're excited about for the wedding day on separate sheets of paper. Discuss them and make sure both of you are heard. It will remind you that you're both excited to be married and celebrate! You might find out that you're excited about different things or that you've been distracted from the same thing. Sometimes the disconnect of “I just don’t feel like they care about the wedding” is not their lack of care, but a lack of understanding what each other cares about on the big day.
Dance Your Heart Out
We often hear from our couples that they are nervous about their first dance. They may feel like they're not good at dancing or they don't like the attention. However, there are ways to boost your confidence and make the first dance a fun and memorable experience.
One way to do this is by taking dance lessons together. Many instructors specialize in helping couples with their first dance on the wedding day. It doesn't have to be a big, fancy production (unless you want it to be!). The lessons can help you feel more comfortable and confident on the dance floor, and it's a great way to connect with your partner. After the lesson, you can go out to dinner and make it a special date night.
If you prefer to stay in, you can have an at-home dance lesson. Take some time to practice twirls, dips, and any other moves you want to incorporate into your first dance. It doesn't have to be choreographed, but practicing together in your living room can be a huge confidence booster. Afterward, you can make dinner together and cozy up on the couch to watch a movie. It's a wonderful way to make the first dance less intimidating and more fun.
P.S.A. One thing to keep in mind is to avoid eating a big meal before dancing. All the twirling and moving around can make you feel bloated and uncomfortable. It's best to eat after the dance lesson or practice and burn some calories on the dance floor. You can always eat again afterward if you're hungry!
We hope these date night ideas help you and your partner reconnect and tackle some daunting wedding planning tasks while having fun and enjoying each other's company.
